A married woman and a drifter fall in love, then plot to murder her husband. Once the deed is done, they must live with the consequences of their actions

Based on James M. Cain’s 1934 novel. Nick Smith (Cecil Kellaway), a middle-aged roadside diner owner, hires drifter Frank Chambers (John Garfield). Frank quickly begins an affair with Nick's wife, Cora (Lana Turner), and they conspire to kill Nick and seize his assets. When they succeed, local prosecutor Kyle Sackett (Leon Ames) is suspicious, but unable to build a solid case. However, the couple soon realizes that no misdeed ever goes truly unpunished. (USA, 1946, 113 min., NR, English | Dir. Tay Garnett)
