This hugely important film documents the liberation of Belsen and other concentration camps by Allied forces in Spring 1945. The production was originally shelved by the Ministry of Information in 1945, before being restored and completed by the Imperial War Museum in 2014.

Professor Paula Amad - Associate Professor and Department Chair of the Department of Cinematic Arts. Professor Amad teaches and researches at the intersection of film history, film theory, and literary studies, with a particular interest in French cinema, nonfiction film, archive and memory studies, postcolonial theory in the visual domain, and the relationship between photography and film.She has published articles in Camera Obscura, Framework, Film History, and Cahiers de la Cinémathèque, some of which have been translated into German and Italian. Her current book projects include one on the archival imaginary of post-war French cinema and another on aerial photography and film, and article projects on the cinematic haunting of the site of Les Halles and women and French cinephilia. Her book Counter-Archive was deemed a highly recommended book by the Kraszna-Krausz Foundation Book Awards for 2011.

Jane Wells- Emmy Award Nominated Documentary Filmmaker and Activist. Wells is the founder of 3 Generations, a non-profit organization that uses film to share stories of survivors of human rights abuses from around the world. Her father Sidney Bernstein's work on German Concentration Camps Factual Survey, and his lifelong regret of never seeing the film's public release, inspired Jane to become a filmmaker and motivated the creation of 3 Generations.

Professor Elizabeth Heineman - Professor and Department Chair of the Department of History. Professor Heineman has been at the UI since 1999 and teaches courses in Germany, Europe, women, and gender. Her past research has examined gender, war, and memory in Germany; welfare states in comparative perspective (Fascist, Communist, and Democratic); and the significance of marital status for women. In 2011, she published Before Porn was Legal: The Erotica Empire of Beate Uhse (University of Chicago Press) (Listen to a New Books in History podcast interview regarding this book here) and The History of Sexual Violence in Conflict Zones: From the Ancient World to the Era of Human Rights (editor, University of Pennsylvania Press). She is also author of the memoir Ghostbelly (Feminist Press, 2014)

Ciuin Ferrin - Graduate Student in the Department of History. Ciuin Ferrin is currently researching the Holocaust. Her focus within the Holocaust is the Romani experience,which often goes unnoticed in Holocaust museums and memorials as well as in textbooks.
