Over the course of three days within the comfortable suburbs of Mexico City, a typical middle-class family suddenly finds itself pushed to its breaking point: mother Paty spends her days—and the family’s dwindling savings—at a local casino as father Rodrigo reaches his wits’ end, planning a new life as a single father while reliving his adolescence alongside a curious new friend. Their adult son Luis is eagerly planning a wedding to his fiancée Natalia, who clearly has other plans; and youngest son Carlos secretly skims money off of his family members in an ambitious plan to bring them back together. Yet none are prepared for the changes their lives are about to take in this lively and powerful debut feature from director José Ramón Chávez Delgado.
Moving to the rhythms of everyday life and filled with memorable performances, Help Me Make It Through the Night follows the triumphs and failures of Mexico’s struggling middle-class with insight and honesty while heralding the arrival a major new filmmaking talent.
En el curso de tres días dentro de un acomodado barrio de la ciudad de México, una típica familia de clase media de pronto llega a su punto de ruptura: Paty, la madre, malgasta sus días y los menguantes ahorros de la familia en el casino local, mientras que Rodrigo, el padre, pierde la paciencia y planea una nueva vida de padre soltero mientras revive su adolescencia en compañía de un curioso nuevo amigo. Luis, el hijo adulto, planea afanosamente la boda con Natalia, su prometida, quien claramente tiene otros planes; y el hijo menor, Carlos, secretamente roba dinero a sus familiares poco a poco en un ambicioso plan para volver a reunir la familia. Director's Biography
José Ramón begins his career collaborating with the television and radio department of the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí in 1998. In 2000 he begins his studies at the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica, specializing in film direction. His graduation film is the short film De fut, that was screened at several international and national film festivals.
Professionally José Ramón works as a director and assistant director for cinema, television and publicity projects, collaborating with filmmakers such as Carlos Bolado, Julio Hernández Cordón, Maryse Sistach, José Buil and Jorge Michel Grau. Help Me Make it Through the Night is his first feature film. He is currently developing his second feature film.
