Far from your average Christmas caper, debut-filmmaker Josh Lobo's mesmerizing and frightful I Trapped the Devil lives up to its name. The film centers on Matt and Karen, who arrive at Matt's brother Steve's home to ring in the holiday season. While the brothers have long been estranged, there is a more pressing matter at hand–Steve has a man locked in his basement. Or so it appears on the surface. Terrified, the couple listens as Steve explains what he is convinced is the truth–that the man in his basement is not a man at all, but the Devil incarnate. Matt and Karen are now faced with two equally horrifying possibilities: that Steve is in the middle of a mental breakdown, or that he is in fact telling the truth, and the man in the basement poses a far greater threat than any of them could imagine.
