Description

A clash of wills between the workforce and upper management are at the heart of Stéphane Brizé's latest, At War. When Perrin Industries lays off 1100 workers, a line is drawn. After having made a promise to their workers two years prior that their jobs were safe, the company goes through with the firing lest they face the risk of shutting down. Union spokesman Laurent Amedeo (Vincent Lindon) takes it upon himself to lead the charge in mobilizing the workers, all coming together for one last strike to save their livelihoods. The battle itself is equal parts politics and protests, with the film's cast of characters being revealed methodically, their personal lives kept at a distance. Laurent, alongside his co-worker, Melanie (Melanie Rover), fights to take their stand straight to the company's CEO in Germany, but their plight is undermined by deflection, avoidance and their bosses' refusal to accept blame.
