Legendary screen star Loretta Young gives a tour de force performance as a suburban housewife who finds herself caught in a deadly web of lies spun by her wildly jealous husband in this gripping Film Noir thriller from the director of The Postman Always Rings Twice.

Although Film Noir is traditionally associated with the mean streets of the city, the taut and gripping Cause for Alarm! shows that it can work just as effectively amidst the manicured lawns and private homes of suburbia. The legendary Loretta Young stars as Ellen Jones, a housewife caring for her physically and mentally ill husband, George (Barry Sullivan). While recuperating from a heart-attack, he becomes obsessed with the idea that Ellen is having an affair with his doctor, and that they are trying to murder him. Crazed with jealousy, George spins an elaborate web of deceit to trap the supposed lovers. Ellen soon finds herself in a desperate race to keep from being framed for a crime she didn't commit. Veteran director Tay Garnett, who also directed the classic 1946 Film Noir The Postman Always Rings Twice, weaves this dark and twisted tale into a masterwork of the genre that is ripe for rediscovery. (USA, 1951, 74 Mins., English | Dir. Tay Garnett)
