Description

We mourn the loss of Toni Morrison, and have added additional showtimes of this moving portrait of her life. There will be a brief reading of Toni's writing prior to the screening on Tuesday, August 13 at 5pm.

"When it's over, you feel like a beloved friend has left the room."
- Moira MacDonald, Seattle Times

"Moving and profound. Look for this one to be front and center come Oscar time." - Gary Goldstein, Los Angeles Times

"This long overdue portrait of the influential Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winning author is rich with Morrison's down to earth wisdom, poetry and humor." - Pat Mullen, POV Magazine

Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am offers an artful and intimate meditation on the life and works of the acclaimed novelist. From her childhood in the steel town of Lorain, Ohio to '70s-era book tours with Muhammad Ali, from the front lines of her peers, critics and colleagues on an exploration of race, America, history and human condition as seen through the prism of her own literature. Woven together with a rich collection of art, history, literature and personality, the film includes discussions about her many critically acclaimed works, including novels The Bluest Eye, Sula and Song of Solomon, her role as an editor of iconic African-American literature and her time teaching at Princeton University.
