"The Wind Rises is more than mere allegory. It’s a sublime journey into the very nature of inspiration, from one of the world’s most idiosyncratic filmmakers." - Bilge Ebiri, Vulture
The latest film from legendary Japanese animator and Studio Ghibli founder Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away), THE WIND RISES tells the true story of Jiro Horikoshi, a revolutionary airplane designer. As a young boy, Jiro (voiced by Joseph Gordon-Levitt) dreams of flying, but his nearsightedness prevents him from living that dream, so he instead becomes an engineer. During the Kanto earthquake of 1923, Jiro meets the love of his life (voiced by Emily Blunt). As we follow their relationship and his burgeoning career, war looms.
