About the film

For seventeen-year-old Sofia (Ayomi Domenica Dias), life seems almost perfect. She shines as a volleyball player, enjoys a blooming relationship with a teammate, and seems destined for a bright international future when she finds out she is pregnant. She plans to terminate the pregnancy, but in Brazil, abortion is a crime and the conservative community that surrounds her makes Sofia the target of their anti-abortion fury. Trapped and about to lose everything, her future is no longer in her hands. With no way out in sight, her teammates and coach close ranks around her. She is no longer alone.

Driven by compelling performances, energetic editing, and a dazzling score, this hopeful and spirited celebration of sisterhood and resistance in the face of Brazilian conservatism is the luminous debut feature of writer/director Lillah Halla and the winner of this year’s FIPRESCI Award at the Cannes Critics' Week.
