The Portland EcoFIlm Festival presents the Portland area premiere of a new feature-length documentary about the largest known underground passage in the world—and the struggle to protect it.
Deep in the jungle of Central Vietnam lies a magnificent underground realm. Hang Son Doong (Mountain River Cave) is the largest cave passage in the world, and it’s a place of spectacular beauty.
Having been discovered by modern humans less than 40 years ago, its pristine charm has remained undisturbed for millions of years. In 2014, Son Doong’s future was cast into uncertainty when plans were announced to build a cable car into the cave.
In addition to illuminating the incredible beauty of Son Doong, this film follows those involved in the struggle to protect it. Lê Nguy?n Thiên Huong is among the activists risking their lives to #SaveSon Doong.
Beautifully shot and scored, A CRACK IN THE MOUNTAIN is a powerful exposé about how both good and bad intentions can ultimately lead to one of the world’s greatest natural wonders being trampled for money. It also serves to inspire those who care about our nature’s wonders to protect them.
