Professor Borg (Victor Sjostrom) is a widowed 78-year-old doctor who is being given an Honorary Doctorate at Lund University. He decides to drive from Stockholm to Lund with his daughter-in-law and meets various people along the way and revisits places that were important in his life and is forced to reevaluate his life. This elegiac study and one of Bergman's most accessible films, with a wonderful performance by Sjostrom, is ultimately a celebration of closure and the affirmation of life.
