Description

Clarinetist Alden Ortuño Cabezas is the associate principal Clarinetist of the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba, and Solo Clarinetist with the “Nuestro Tiempo” Chamber Orchestra.  He has appeared with the National Symphony and Matanzas Symphonic Orchestras in concert throughout the US, Spain, Austria, Mexico, Nicaragua, Ecuador and in Moscow, Russia and performs regularly in the Dominican Republic. A Professor of Clarinet at the National School of Arts, Alden was the top prize Winner at the Amadeo Roldán Provincial Competition in Matanzas Province in 1989, and earned First Place and Recognition for “Best Cuban Music Performance” at the Amadeo Roldán National Competition in Havana in 1994.  He performed at the Markneukirchen International Competitions in Germany (2006) and Geneva Switzerland (2007).

A Professor of Violin at the National School of Arts, Carlos Suárez Morejón has been a member of the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba since 2001, as well as with “Música Eterna” and “Nuestro Tiempo” Chamber Orchestra. He has performed with a variety of ensembles - classical, popular and jazz - and has toured internationally, including throughout the US, Canada, Spain, France, Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela. He earned recognition for the “Best Cuban Music Performance” at the Amadeo Roldán Competition in 1994 and 1989, and at the Musicalia (1998) and UNEAC (2004) competitions, and has performed as a soloist at prestigious concert hallsthroughout Cuba, Martinique and French Guyana. He is a member of the National Association of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC).

Violinist Julio César García Domínguez has previously toured throughout the US, Canada, Spain, Russia, Colombia, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Mexico, Martinique & Guadalupe, as a member of the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba , “Música Eterna” and the Amadeo Roldán String Quartet.  A member of the National Association of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC), Julio has recorded with numerous Cuban and International Artists in both classical and popular genres, including on Leo Brouwer’s GRAMMY® nominated album “Homoludens,” and on Los Van Van’s 2000 GRAMMY® Award Winning Album for Best Salsa:  “Permiso Que Llegó Van Van.”

Violist Idalmis Ulloa Besada joined the National Symphony Orchestra and “Nuestro Tiempo” Chamber Orchestra in 2000 and has appeared with both organizations on international concert tours throughout Mexico, Nicaragua, Ecuador and the United States.  As a member of “Música Eterna,” a chamber orchestra led by Guido López Gavilán, between 1995-2006 she performed throughout Cuba in prestigious concert venues and music festivals, and internationally throughout the United States, Canada and Colombia.  Idalmis has held teaching positions at the National School of Music (2000 – 2006) and the Higher Institute of Arts (2004 – 2006) and is a member of the National Association of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC).  

Currently a member of the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba, Cellist Suaima Ramos Torres has participated in national and international tours including in Russia, Nicaragua and the United States.  IN 2004, she joined the Havana Chamber Orchestra. From 2005 until 2006 she was a member of “Solistas de La Habana” Chamber Orchestra and in 2009 became a member of the Symphonic Orchestra of the Higher Institute of Arts.  Suaima graduated Summa Cum Laude as an Instrumentalist, Professor of Violoncello and Group Practice from the Cuban Higher Institute of Arts in 2010, and since July 2010, has been an apprentice in the manufacturing and repair of Arch Instruments and a member of the “Luthierssans Frontieres Association.”  Suaima works at the Luthier´s Workshop in Old Havana. She is a member of the new Cuban School of Luthiers and continues her studies at Pierre Guillaume´s workshop, a famous Belgian Arch Instrument luthier.
