Veteran Citizen Jane co-directors Farihah Zaman and Jeff Reichert return in just one year with another powerful documentary. THIS TIME NEXT YEAR tracks the resilience of the Long Beach Island, NJ community for one year as they rebuild after 2012’s Hurricane Sandy. Using a mixture of verite, first-person accounts, and the residents’ own footage, THIS TIME NEXT YEAR is a poetic documentation of a shore community as they battle local politics, cope with personal tragedy, and band together in the face of transition. Although it follows a community on the shore and a hurricane, it's impossible not to relate it to our own cities like Joplin (or a recent non-tornado event that gets little media attention this July in Columbia?) and our own natural disasters that seem to be happening more often and with increasing severity. This film compels us to ask the question, what is the role of community? Where do we begin? And shows us the reality of what is left over when the news crews are gone. Each other.
