In 1968, 20-year-old Laura returns to Munich to attend her father's funeral. Overcome with grief, Laura and her mother must face the family's traumatic history: Having survived the Holocaust, Laura's parents stayed in post-War Germany to start a new life. However, their horrific experiences of genocide and concentration camps loomed over their daily lives. Master German director Michael Verhoeven, whose previous works include "The White Rose" and "The Nasty Girl", presents a beautifully made drama and a biting commentary on postwar German society. Elegantly filmed, Verhoeven gently builds the tension that probes the complex notion of German-Jewish identity.
