In 1992, SFMOMA put on the first major retrospective of the work of Jeff Koons, who at a boyish 37 was already lauded as a visionary and reviled as a provocateur. As Koons and his wife, Italian porn star/politician Ilona Staller, roll into town for the show the filmmakers cannily document everyone caught up in Koons’s success - the curators, the consultants, and the collectors - while also capturing a multi-sided portrait of a man whose work continues to raise difficult, probing questions about the role of the artist in society. -CM
