PETALS IN THE DUST: THE ENDANGERED INDIAN GIRLS is part of director Nyna Pais Caputi’s personal mission to understand and shed light on the enormity of the problem of gender discrimination and violence in India. Women from all economic backgrounds continue to lose their lives to infanticide, sex-selective abortions, starvation and medical neglect, dowry deaths and brutal gang rapes. The resultant gender imbalance is leading to an increase in sexual crimes, child marriages, trafficking, bride buying and even polygamy. -JM
