Ladislas Starevich”. Starevich is the stop motion animator who inspired
The Quay Brothers, Jan Svankmajer, and so many others. This 16mm
presentation includes:
Revenge of the Kinomatagraph Cameraman
(1912) A jilted husband takes his revenge by filming his wife and her
lover and showing the result at the local cinema.
Frogland (1922) The frogs are bored with their lot, and ask God to give them a king.
The Song of the Nightingale (1925) A fairy-tale-like telling of why the nightingale only sings at night.
Love
in Black and White (1928) The misadventures of a traveling theatrical
company, as the actors attempt to put on a show while romantic rivalries
erupt backstage.
The Mascot (1933) Duffy the Dog is a puppet who
comes to life. He then practically goes through Hell itself — including
a confrontation with a Satan puppet — to bring an orange to a sad
little girl.
