Description

Issues of sexuality, parenting, and commitment take center stage in Fabio Mollo's sensitive and sensual romantic drama. Paolo (THE GREAT BEAUTY's Luca Marinelli) is a rootless gay man living in Turin; his eight-year relationship with Vittorio has just ended and his mundane job brings him little joy. Enter Mia (Isabella Ragonese from PURPLE SEA), a free-spirited (and pregnant) wild child, who he meets in the most unlikely of places and promptly passes out in front of him. The next morning, she begs Paolo for a ride to see her boyfriend, and as their journey expands into a longer and more personal road trip, the film beautifully details the growing bond between the two. With Mia similarly at loose ends—she doesn't quite know who her fathered her baby and her relationship with her family is fraught—she gravitates toward Paolo and his newfound urge to be a father. Director Mollo builds to a powerful and moving resolution as his two protagonists (beautifully played by Marinelli and Ragonese) decide whether their respective futures involve caring for a new child. –Rod Armstrong
