Director Ang Lee (Brokeback Mountain; Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) creates a groundbreaking movie event about a young man who survives a disaster at sea and is hurtled into an epic journey of adventure and discovery. While cast away, he forms an amazing and unexpected connection with another survivor…a fearsome Bengal tiger. As we celebrate our 35th anniversary, we acknowledge MVFF’s deep connection with Ang Lee, whose 1992 film Pushing Hands was introduced in the United States at this Festival. Lee has the distinction of having had more of his films open MVFF than any other filmmaker and was the recipient of an MVFF Tribute in 2007. At our Closing Night, he will be recognized for his extraordinary body of work with a prestigious Variety International Filmmaker of the Year Award.
After the screenings, join us for the CLOSING NIGHT PARTY!
Savor, indulge and jam with scrumptuous Sol Food (and many other featured caterers), tasty wine, Lagunitas beer, signature cocktails, and LIVE MUSIC by local favorite FOREST SUN.
Forest Sun is a San Francisco-based Americana singer-songwriter whose music has been compared to everyone from Jack Johnson, John Mayer and The Avett Brothers to Van Morrison and Bob Dylan. Forest’s songs span from the philosophical folk ballad and Pacific Songwriting Competition winner “Drops in the Ocean” to the sexy reggae groove of “So Nice” featured on MTV’s Good Vibes. His 2012 release, Just Begun, recorded in Tucson, AZ, is a rootsy Americana record tinged with a Sonoran desert flavor, all wrapped up in Forest's laid-back California
All of this at a legendary film post-production house - 32TEN Studios - home of Star Wars Series, Indiana Jones, Pirates of the Carribean, Die Hard, and more! You won't forget this night.
