Re-Run Theater presents a 16mm print of Something Evil.
One of
the few Steven Spielberg movies that has never been officially released
on home video. An ABC made for TV follow up to his hit Duel, this is
his second feature film. Telecast in 1972, three years before he would
break all box office records with Jaws. Something Evil’s influence can
clearly be seen on The Exorcist, The Amityville Horror, Spielberg’s own
Poltergeist and virtually every child possession or haunted house movie
made since.
A television ad producer (Darren McGavin) and his
wife (Sandy Dennis) buy a farmhouse in the Pennsylvania country side to
raise their young children. Slowly but surely, a demonic force makes
itself known and takes possession of their oldest son (popular child
star Johnny Whitaker). Even though it is devoid of gore and profanity
as were the rules for TV at the time, Something Evil is quite creepy and
very well directed, clearly showcasing the young Spielberg’s incredible
gifts as a filmmaker.
We at Re-Run Theater are very proud to present this rare 16mm print complete with vintage ads from the early 70s era.
