There are many jazz legends that have influenced American fashion. In a program built around that concept we present to you Jazz & Fashion, a world premiere with music and fashion history. Photography, video and period clothing will take you back to the days when Louis Armstrong inspired men to emulate his style in the 1930s, Dizzy’s soul patch, beret, black horn rimmed glasses, double breasted suits were all the rage in the 1940s, and Billie Holiday’s gardenia in her hair was representative of determined resilience and beauty in pain.
Hill District BEAT is the soundtrack to a groundbreaking exhibition, Teenie Harris, Photographer: An American Story, at the Carnegie Museum of Art. Perfomred live for the first time by the MCG Jazz All Stars, the soundtrack will take you on a journey of 40 years of 20th Century jazz from Swing and Bebop to Cool and Contemporary.
