5 Women Saxophone Journeys featuring Virginia
Mayhew, Erica Lindsay, Laura J. Dreyer, Su Terry and music director, Fostina
Dixon. This is a world premiere event featuring five women telling their journeys as female
saxophonists: how they persevered, what inspired and motivated them to
continue, how they came into their own identity as bandleaders, and their
musical compositions. The evening will feature each artist’s
unique style and original compositions in a variety of ensemble configurations
from duos to octets. Together they will identify their similarities and
differences as individuals and as artists. The aim is to inspire more females
to see themselves present in a male-dominated art form and bring change in
education, performance, and acceptance of women in jazz.
The concert
will be followed by a meet and greet where you can learn more about
these world-class musicians and their journeys.
This special
event program is funded in part by The National Endowment for the Arts Grants
