Plays Monday, March 27 at 7:00 PM.

A small-time thief steals a car and impulsively murders a motorcycle policeman. Wanted by the authorities, he reunites with a hip American journalism student and attempts to persuade her to run away with him to Italy. Breathless was Jean-Luc Godard's first feature-length work (with a screenplay written from an original treatment by Francois Truffaut) and represented Jean-Paul Belmondo's breakthrough as an actor.

Programmer's Note

Breathless is one of the most important films ever made; it’s the film that launched the French New Wave as a thing. In terms of the energy and edge, this is the one that captured the imagination at the time. The one that most people talk about when the talk about Godard.
