Beginner Tap with Janet Schroeder

This all-levels tap class will include rhythm tap dance technique and composition as well as some historical context with rudiments from Steve Condos and choreography from Honi Coles. Throughout the class, dancers will continually engage with two fundamental tenets of rhythm tap dance including the importance of musicality and the embodiment of the Africanist aesthetic. Participants without tap shoes can wear jazz or ballet shoes, go barefoot, or wear other hard-soled shoes.

Bio:
Janet Schroeder (she/her) is a percussive dance artist,
scholar, and teacher, with a particular interest in tap dance, Appalachian
clogging, and body percussion. From 2005-2010, Schroeder toured with music and
dance company Rhythm in Shoes and has danced with Movement Afoot since 2014.
She holds a BFA in musical theatre from Ohio Northern University, an MFA in
dance from The College at Brockport, SUNY, and a PhD in dance studies from Ohio
State University.
