Meet the Musician: Dr. Brian Felix presents "The [Tone]Wheel is Turning’”: The Hammond Organ, the Grateful Dead, and 1960s Rock"

"The [Tone]Wheel is Turning: The Hammond Organ, the Grateful Dead, and 1960s Rock:" UNC Asheville professor Dr. Felix will take the audience on an audio & visual journey through the Hammond’s history and its path through jazz and rhythm & blues into 1960s rock music. Felix’s scholarly work has been published in Jazz Perspectives, Dialogue: The Interdisciplinary Journal of Popular Culture and Pedagogy, and Grateful Dead Studies. The research he will present at Weymouth is the subject of a forthcoming book chapter for a volume from Duke University Press.

Brian Felix is an accomplished, versatile jazz keyboardist based in Asheville, NC. A co-leader of the acclaimed San Francisco jazz-rock group OM Trio (1999–2004), he remains active today as a performer and recording artist. His newest album, Level Up (February 2025), features Felix on organ, Tim Fischer on guitar, and Evan Martin on drums.

Join local author Rylee Hayes for a story time that is more than a just a story. Rylee has been called the 'Miss Rachael of the Sandhills'. Children from newborn to elementary age will enjoy the themed stories, stretching, and dancing in this hour packed full of fun. Each session ends with a bubble dance on the lawn. August's theme is Ice cream. Free and open to the public. Registration appreciated!
