More gruesome and graphic than Psycho due
to the relaxation of censorship in the 70s, this terrifying story of a sex
killer at large, revisits Hitchcock’s theme of the wrongfully accused man. Jon
Finch plays a disaffected bartender suspected by the police of being the
“Necktie Killer” after the murder of his ex-wife. With relentlessly macabre
humor and a colorful cast of supporting roles, Hitchcock’s penultimate
film is one most memorable (and most violent) of his long career. (1972, 116
mins)
