Description

Prepare to save the universe with the King of the Impossible! Alex Raymond's famous comic strip blasts to life in the timeless sci-fi cult adventure Flash Gordon! When energy waves pull the moon out of orbit, New York Jets quarterback Flash Gordon unwittingly finds himself heading for the planet Mongo, where—with assistance from beautiful Dale Arden—he'll take on Ming the Merciless and rescue humankind.

Coral Gables Art Cinema is excited to present a 4-film tribute to Freddie Mercury on what would have been his 79th birthday, celebrating his legacy through his band Queen and their significant contributions to film. Our selection includes the Academy Award®-winning film Bohemian Rhapsody, a biopic that was in development for 10 years and celebrates Queen's music and legacy, introducing new fans to the band's music and history; Highlander, presented in a stunning 35mm print. This cult classic gained part of its status thanks to Queen's music. Director Russell Mulcahy originally wanted a theme song for the film, but the band was so impressed with a 20-minute footage of the film that they provided the entire soundtrack; Flash Gordon, which became Queen's first attempt at providing a film soundtrack and evolved into a cult classic; Wayne's World, remembered in Queen's history as their revival in the U.S. Mike Myers' insistence on featuring "Bohemian Rhapsody" in the car scene reintroduced the band to a new generation of Americans after Freddie Mercury's death in 1991.

This collection not only highlights Queen's collaborations in film but also invites audiences to embark on a captivating journey through cult classics and the heart of Queen's versatile artistry.
