Description

40th Anniversary Screening!

Pop princess Ellen Aim (Diane Lane) has been kidnapped! It’s up to her gruff, smoking hot boyfriend Tom (Michael Paré) and his tough-as-nails sidekick McCoy (Amy Madigan) to get across the grim neon-noir jungle of the city and rescue her from the terrible motorcycle gang that has her captive – led by a deadly, ALSO incredibly hot Big Boss, Raven Shaddock (a young Willem Dafoe)!

Dumpster Raccoon Cinema is proud to present one of programmer Anthony Oliveira’s favourite movies, Streets of Fire (1984)!

Featuring tracks by legends Jim Steinman (!), Jimmy Iovine (!), and Stevie Nicks (!), Streets of Fire is a stylish, steamy disasterpiece. Filmmaker Walter Hill described the film as an attempt to combine all his great loves: “custom cars, kissing in the rain, neon, trains in the night, high-speed pursuit, rumbles, rock stars, motorcycles, jokes in tough situations, leather jackets and questions of honor.” The result is a crackerjack pastiche of styles, modes, genres, and competencies as a rip-roaring urban warfare adventure sizzles against one of the greatest soundtracks ever assembled, the deadliest fight scene you’ve ever seen, and hot people acting stupid.

A neo-noir “rock & roll fable” that merged post-war Tom of Finland leatherhead aesthetics with the big hair and rising crescendos of Jim Steinman pop to create a look that would effect a seismic influence from video games to Gotham City ever since. This movie will leave you asking “what year is this???” and “is this a musical or isn’t it?” and “are those sledgehammers real because wow that looks so dangerous?!?”
