TV on Film: Beatlemania Programme (approx. 45 mins)

  • Braverman’s Condensed Cream of The Beatles (1975). A terrific film shown as part of a Geraldo Rivera special, this cleverly edited documentary touches on many highlights of their careers, including the Shea Stadium concerts.

  • All four original theatrical Feature Film Trailers for A Hard Day’s Night (1964), Help! (1965), Yellow Submarine (1968), and Let It Be (1970).

  • Hey Jude (1968). David Frost introduces The Beatles in a performance of their biggest-selling single. Shown in North America on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.

  • Plus a quick, one-minute theatrical trailer promoting a closed circuit screening of The Beatles first live concert in America (1964); a British Pathe newsreel from 1963 showing The Beatles performing in Manchester, England; and the Roger Ramjet cartoon: “Cockroaches”, which shows our hero battling a group of no-goods trying to cash in on the popularity of the Fab Four.

Intermission (15 mins.)

A Hard Day's Night (88 mins.)

60th Anniversary!

Meet the Beatles! Just one month after they exploded onto the U.S. scene with their Ed Sullivan Show appearance, John, Paul, George, and Ringo began working on a project that would bring their revolutionary talent to the big screen. This film, in which the bandmates play slapstick versions of themselves, captured the astonishing moment when they officially became the singular, irreverent idols of their generation and changed music forever. Directed with raucous, anything-goes verve by Richard Lester (The Knack . . . and How to Get It) and featuring a slew of iconic pop anthems—including the title track, “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “I Should Have Known Better,” and “If I Fell”—A Hard Day’s Night, which reconceived the movie musical and exerted an incalculable influence on the music video, is one of the most deliriously entertaining movies of all time.
