Description

This film is a free screening as part of the “Hamilton Accessibility Film Festival”.

In keeping with the Disability History Month theme, people with disabilities as portrayed through film over the years will be the highlight of the film festival. The AHA! wishes to provide the community an opportunity to watch both classic and contemporary films depicting either persons with disabilities or actors portraying characters who have a disability through a critical lens.  There will be opportunity for discussion about the films and their content, as well as accessibility of film for all persons regardless of disability and how the community collectively can make cinematic experiences (on the big screen) enjoyable and accessible to everyone.

Samuel Habib, 21, wants to date, leave home, go to college. But he drives a 350-pound wheelchair, uses a communication device, and can have a seizure at any moment. Determined to find his path forward, he seeks out guidance from America's most rebellious disability activists.

This screening will be shown with open captions and descriptive audio for everyone.

What are open captions?
Open captions are built into the video itself, they are always visible and can't be turned off. They show dialogue and important sounds directly on the screen, unlike closed captions, which can be turned on or off and are added separately.

What is descriptive audio?
Descriptive audio is extra audible narration added to videos that describes what's happening on screen—like actions, settings, and scene changes. It helps people who are blind or visually impaired understand the visual details of the content.

Sensory Friendly Relaxed Screening

• Theatre lights dimmed, not dark
• Lower sound level
