Description

Screening with Forecast Public Art short film Emily Stover, April 25.

Tender, funny and surprising, Afterlife is a sweetly absurdist coming-of-age tale that explores the relationship between an Mozes, an anxious twenty-something guy and Janos, his controlling pastor father — not only while the older man is alive, but also after his death. A timid vegetarian who has just been released from a mental hospital, Mozes sorely tries the pastor’s expectations of what a real man should be. Before Janos gets the chance to force Mozes to volunteer at a leprosy mission in the Ukraine, he keels over from a heart attack. But his ghost lingers on, appearing only to his frustrated son, who tries to help the apparition find eternal rest.

Corn is a sensitive topic and one that ignites many debates and conversations. The video shows the way an artist is trying to start a conversation about the different usage of corn and about what it means to us not only as a crop but also as part of the American culture. The video follows the artist Emily Stover in different spaces – farms, roads, and art studios to see her researching the topic, while creating art.
