A group of friends at a Jerusalem retirement home construct a machine for self-euthanasia in order to help a terminally ill pal in this poignant, provocative dramedy. Boasting a dream cast of septuagenarian talent, a finely honed visual sense and superbly ironic comic timing and dialogue, the compassionate film pits the ethics of assisted suicide against the right to die with dignity. Brimming with humanity and heart, the film continually riffs on the theme of who has the right to play God. This becomes more than a rhetorical question when the hospitalized Max begs his wife Yana and best friend, the inventor Yehezkel, to put him out of his terrible suffering.
