MSPIFF at Rochester: Wed, 4/22 4:30pm
Always a treacherous environment, the Arabian desert becomes even more life-threatening during World War I, the Bedouin homeland now a battleground. Theeb, whose name means "wolf" lives with his older brother, Hussein, following the death of their father, the sheik of their tight-knit community.
Their lives are interrupted by the arrival of a British Army Officer and his guide. Bound by custom to offer the visitors refuge, Hussein agrees to be their guide to a water well along a pilgrimage route to Mecca. Fearful of also losing his brother, Theeb chases after Hussein, embarking on a journey across the harsh terrain for which he is ill prepared. If Theeb is to survive, he must quickly learn the realities of trust, betrayal and courage, and live up to the name his father gave him.
