Description

Tharlo is a 40 year-old Tibetan man who quietly lives his life among the mountains with his herd of sheep. But his simple life is thrown into disarray when local authorities force him to get an ID card, necessitating a fateful trip into town to have his photo taken. Shot in beautiful black and white, Tharlo opens with a philosophical discussion on individuality and then slowly dismantles identity with Tharlo’s literal and symbolic assimilation into society. Director Pema Tseden delivers another powerful parable with the help of a spirited lead performance by Tibetan comedian and poet Shide Nyima.
