About Camp
FilmScene campers will work in teams to produce, direct, and edit their own animations, totally from scratch! Each day campers will learn about different animation styles (GIFs, claymation, light & shadow puppets, hand-drawn cartooning, video games and more) and make mini-movies that will provide understanding of what is possible in animation. Campers will watch the work of other animators to study styles and methods. For the closing ceremonies, campers premiere their finish project for family and friends on the big screen! This week-long camp includes hands-on learning with iPads, multi-directional lighting and a wide range of materials from paper to clay, all provided. Campers watch the work of other animators to study styles and methods.

2020 Lead Teacher
Jarrod Derooi has co-taught FilmScene's Animation Camp for three years. in 2018, he retired from his position with the Iowa City School District to pursue art and writing full-time. He has a small organic farm where he spends his free time gardening, and raising a variety of animals. Jarrod's passions for art and working with young people make his time at FilmScene the highlight of his summer.

Cancellation Policy
A deposit is required to secure participant's registration. This deposit is refundable until May 1. After May 1, deposits are only issued in the case of illness or emergency. For cancellations made at least four weeks before your camper's class begins, refunds will be issued at the discretion of FilmScene staff, less a $50 cancellation fee per camper. For cancellations made less than four weeks before your camper's class begins, no refunds will be issued (unless in the case of illness and emergency). Any tuition paid for the class, minus the $50 cancellation fee will become a FilmScene credit usable only toward a future FilmScene Animation Camp. Any difference in cost from the new class will not be refunded. No credits or refunds will be given for cancellations occuring within two business days of the start date of the class; similarly, no credits or refunds will be given once camp sessions begin. If for whatever reason FilmScene must cancel a camp session at any point, full refunds will be given to all registrants.
