Description

In a quiet classroom somewhere in Sicily, immigrants to Europe meet with a white teacher. He will receive three different groups of immigrants, and to each he will represent a very different facet of the new continent. He will tell the first that he cannot help them, that he doesn’t want them, and then will show how much they will cost society. The second group will receive empathy and understanding, and will see a teacher eager to help his students find their way. Finally, he will represent actual European immigration policy in all of its maddening complexity.

Guido Hendrikx’s debut documentary feature is a stunning combination of bravura acting on the part of Valentijn Dhaenens, who plays the teacher (aka “Europe” according to IMdB.com), and the best of documentary journalism. “A brutally direct lesson in the realities of European refugee politics.” — Screen Daily
