Description

Chef Massimo Bottura, whose restaurant Osteria Francescana was named the world’s best restaurant in 2016, sets his sights on a new culinary adventure: taking food that is to be thrown away and making it into delicious and nutritious gourmet dinners for the most vulnerable people in Milan, Italy. His soup kitchen, Refettorio Ambrosiano, was created during the 2015 World's Fair, Expo Milano, and Bottura took the food from the waste bins and with an army of 60 chefs, including Mario Batali, Ferran Adria, and Alain Ducasse, made dinner for refugees, addicts, former sex workers, and the homeless each night.

“Most who ate at the Refettorio had never heard of any of the famous chefs. Would they care? Would it mean anything more than any free soup-kitchen meal?,” director Peter Svatek asks. “[An] eye-opening, compelling film.” —Montreal Gazette
