8 PM TOM OF FINLAND
Touko Laaksonen’s erotic drawings shaped the fantasies of a generation of gay men, influencing art, fashion, and the wider cultural consciousness. But who was the man behind the leather? Follow his life from the trenches of WWII and repressive Finnish 1950s society through his struggle to be published until his art was finally embraced amid the 1970s sexual revolution. Tom’s story is one of love, mirroring the gay liberation movement for which his leather-clad studs served as a defiant emblem. (Finland/Denmark/Sweden/Germany, 2017, 116 min., NR, English & Finnish with subtitles | Dir. Dome Karukoski)
