Description

An endearing dramedy, The Cake General is based on a true story and a book by Filip Hammar and Fredrik Wikingsson, writers, television hosts and journalists known for their youthful, albeit intellectual, humor and unconventional journalism. It all begins in 1984, when the TV show Rekord-Magazinet declares Ko¨ping to be the most boring city in Sweden. While most of the citizens of Ko¨ping become practically paralyzed by the news, Hasse P, an eccentric inventor, decides to refute the "Stockholm bastards" by baking the world's longest sandwich cake in order to establish a world record. A sandwich cake is a uniquely Swedish confection in which one is as likely to get a bite of shrimp or dill in a mouthful as they are a bit of frosting or yellow pound cake. Of course, the road to this record does not run smoothly… Major Swedish star Mikael Persbrandt is a hoot as Hasse P.
