Description

Blending queer, political and science-fiction themes, Gabriel Abrantes' and Daniel Schimdt's debut feature boldly walks the line between thriller and satire with a high-energy spirit that never settles down. The film centers on a beloved Portuguese soccer star named Diamantino Matamouros, whose world is shattered when he is loses his knack for the game. Searching for a new purpose, Diamantino is swept up by the mysterious Lusitanian Information Services, who secretly plot to manipulate the player for their own political gain. Not a film to let audiences go without surprises (and there are many), the film takes several fantastical turns as Diamantino undergoes scientific experiments at the hands of the L.I.S., which results in unpredictable changes to both his body and his state of mind. Winner, Best Film, Cannes Critics Week.
