On Tuesday, September 10, award-winning and bestselling author Margaret Atwood publishes worldwide her highly anticipated new novel – The Testaments – a sequel to her most celebrated work, The Handmaid’s Tale. In a unique live on-screen simulcast event on this momentous date, cinema audiences across the world will be treated to an evening in conversation with Atwood about the release of the new book, her long and distinguished career and why she has returned to her seminal story of The Handmaid’s Tale, 34 years after she wrote the original.

The exclusive cinema event will include exclusive readings by several high-profile actors from the new book and filmed documentary content from throughout Atwood’s life. Filmed live from the stage of London’s National Theatre -- but not a part of the National Theatre Live series -- Atwood will also answer questions from audiences in this rare appearance and intimate evening.  (110 min.)

It’s with great excitement that we can now share with you exciting news and the full line up of special guests for Margaret Atwood: Live in Cinemas. Accompanying the previously announced Lily James, two-time Oscar nominee Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water) and Ann Dowd shall also be reading selected passages from The Testaments. Ann Dowd stars as Lydia in the critically acclaimed Hulu TV adaptation of The Handmaid’s Tale, for which she won an Emmy Award, and her participation follows the thrilling news that Aunt Lydia is one of the characters that appears in the new novel.

In addition to the cinema event, Atwood will be undertaking an in-person book tour, following the event.  There is expected to be a very significant amount of publicity and advertising to promote the new book, which the UK’s Guardian calls “The literary event of the year”.
