Description

From the creators of Downton Abbey, a fascinating tale about a 1920s Kansas housewife whose decision to chaperone aspiring dancer and future movie star Louise Brooks on a trip to New York City transforms both of their lives. One of them is eager to fulfill her destiny of artistic stardom; the other is on a mission to unearth the mysteries of her past.

The early life of legendary movie star Louise Brooks forms the basis of this handsome period piece from Michael Engler (Downton Abbey, 30 Rock, Six Feet Under) and Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey, Gosford Park). This lovely coming-of-age story centers on the relationship between the teenage Brooks (Haley Lu Richardson) and her tee-totaling chaperone
(Elizabeth McGovern). From the conservative confines of Kansas to the flash and sizzle of New York, both are driven by a kindred desire for self-discovery and liberation from the past. Based on the book by Laura Moriarty and anchored by a superb cast (Miranda Otto, Géza Röhrig, and Blythe Danner), The Chaperone is a resonant, and illuminating tale of women's lives in the early 20th century.
