Award-winning journalist, Maureen Orth, is a Special Correspondent for Vanity Fair and author of two books. Her best-selling, Vulgar Favors, was the basis of season 2 of the Emmy award winning American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianna Versace.
 
One of the first women writers at Newsweek, Maureen wrote seven cover stories on pop culture including musicians Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder and Bruce Springsteen. At Vanity Fair, she has written profiles on everyone from Margaret Thatcher and Madonna to Vladimir Putin and her most recent on Colombia’s most feared FARC female revolutionary, “Karina”. Her acclaimed investigations on Michael Jackson and Woody Allen went viral on the internet. Her cover story on the Virgin Mary, was the best-selling cover for National Geographic Magazine in 2015.
 
Maureen, a former Peace Corps Volunteer, is the founder of the Marina Orth Foundation where STEM, English and leadership are taught in public schools in Medellin, Colombia.  Her all girls robotics team “Little Engineers” won the gold medal at the global robotics competition, RoboRAVE. Her robotics teams continue to compete and win against some of the best private schools in Colombia. In 2015, Maureen was awarded the Cruz de San Carlos, Colombia’s highest civilian award for service to the country.
 
Maureen is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, in Political Science and also UCLA in Journalism and Documentary Filmmaking. She serves as a Trustee of the UC Berkeley Foundation. In 2016, she was named the Distinguished Alumnus of the Cal Alumni Club of Washington D.C. In 2017, she was awarded an honorary doctorate in Humane Letters from the University of San Francisco.

Along with her late husband, Tim Russert, NBC Washington Bureau Chief and Moderator of Meet the Press, and her son, Luke, Maureen has spent every summer in Nantucket since 1993.

Luke Orth Russert is an Emmy award winning journalist who was a NBC News correspondent from 2008-2016 primarily covering the House of Representatives. Currently he is working on a memoir about his two and half year journey around the world that took him to over fifty countries. He splits his time between Washington DC, San Francisco and Nantucket.
