George Harrison's musical career with the Beatles took him on a path to finding spiritual meaning, starting with his first sitar in 1965 and a chance meeting with Ravi Shankar. He began studying vedic book and spiritual masters and by 1966-1967 his music reflected his new found belief (Within You And Without You).

In 1968 the Beatles went to Rishikesh India to meet with the Maharishi and during the White Album sessions, George began his association and friendship with Hari Krishna devotees and their leader, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Together they produced Krishna books and an album "Goddess Of Fortune" which landed a #1 hit single "The Hari Krishna Mantra".

By 1969 the Beatles were falling apart, and George began recording a solo album "All Things Must Pass" that produced the hit recording "My Sweet Lord". He produced and organized The Concert For Bangla Desh with an all star group of musicians (Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton) to help impoverished India. Throughout the 1970s, George spiritual belief continued in many of his songs, such as "What Is Life" and "Living In The Material World". He also developed a passion for race car driving and producing movies.
By the 1980s George was back on top with the all star group The Traveling Wilbury's. His spiritual path continued until his untimely death in 2001.

This lecture will examine George Harrison's spiritual beliefs and musical growth as an artist, transcendental seeker and cultural icon.
