Original Title: Les deux timides
This very rare screening will be accompanied by acclaimed local musician Katie Condon, in partnership with Syncopated Silents.
When the timid Fremissin (Pierre Batcheff), a lawyer, does a horrible job of getting his client, Thibaudier (Maurice de Féraudy), off on charges of assault, the brute vows to enact revenge. Years later, Fremissin falls in love with an equally timid girl who just happens to be engaged to Thibaudier. The pioneering director René Clair described the story as a "vaudeville-nightmare” and yet brings his lightest touch to the tension, result in a film that is at once technically astounding and utterly charming.
This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
