High-powered, no-nonsense public sector attorney by training, doting single mother by choice and living an enviable life in a downtown Bogota high-rise, Silvia Paz (writer and academic Carolina Sanín in a stunning debut performance) should, by all accounts, have it all. Well-trained in the art of verbal sparring by her cantankerous and combative mother Leticia (Leticia Gómez), and carefully stepping into an unexpected relationship with radio journalist Abel Morales (Vladimir Durán), Silvia finds her life thrown into chaos after being accused of misappropriation of public funds at the same moment her mother discovers an aggressive, once-beaten form of cancer has returned. With a defiant, chain-smoking Leticia refusing any further treatment, her corrupt supervisor quick to throw her under the bus and Abel’s less-than-admirable qualities starting to emerge, Silvia finds herself at a personal and professional crossroads, stretched to her breaking point as life’s pressures continue to pile up, in this honest, tender and achingly real second feature from acclaimed writer/director Franco Lolli, the opening night film at the 2019 Cannes Critics’ Week.
Sinopsis
Silvia Paz (papel con que debuta como actriz la escritora y académica Carolina Sanín), abogada de alto nivel sin paciencia para tonterías así como devota madre soltera por elección, lleva una vida envidiable en un rascacielos del centro de Bogotá. Ella debería tenerlo todo. Entrenada en el arte del combate verbal por su cascarrabias y combativa madre Leticia (Leticia Gómez), mientras inicia una inesperada relación con el periodista radial Abel Morales (Vladimir Durán), la vida de Silva cae en el caos tras ser acusada de apropiación indebida de fondos públicos en el mismo momento en el que su madre descubre que una agresiva forma de cáncer que había derrotado en el pasado, ha vuelto. Con la desafiante y fumadora compulsiva Leticia negándose a iniciar tratamiento, con su supervisor corrupto dispuesto a culparla, y con Abel cuyas cualidades menos que admirables han comenzando a emerger, Silvia se encuentra en una encrucijada personal y profesional, haciendo que su punto de quiebre se acerque a medida que las presiones en su vida continúan apilándose.
