Tracie Morris presents a new innovative poetic script in live accompaniment with film. This new work, Daughters, Mothers, Us will be paired with Julie Dash's groundbreaking film Daughters of the Dust. Morris worked on the film as a set PA during shooting in the Gullah Sea Islands in 1989. In this presentation, Morris will perform as a character looking at the film as an African-American "historical" film, in hindsight, as well as her own "interpretive" reflections on the film in the 31 years since she served on the film crew.

Tracie Morris has performed, researched and presented work in over 30 countries and is the author/editor of 8 books. Her installations and performances have been featured at many distinguished national and international museums and galleries including the Dia: Chelsea, the New Museum, the Kitchen Performance Space, the Drawing Center, the Museum of Modern Art, Albertine, the Victoria and Albert Museum, Centre Pompidou, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Levy Gorvy and the Whitney Biennial. Her most recent poetry collection is Hard Kore: Poemes/Per-Form: Poems of Mythos and Place (in English and French joca seria 2017/2018). Tracie's first essay of prose on writing her first work-in-progress for theater, The Impossible Man: Musings on an Archive-Based Work-in-Progress, was co-published in limited edition in 2019 by Moarris and Printed on Paige. Her creative non-fiction work, Who Do With Words, is in its second, expanded edition from Chax Press (2018). She has been a fellow of Cave Canem, the CPCW Fellow of Creative Writing at the University of Pennsylvania, as well as the Millay, Yaddo and MacDowell artist colonies. Tracie holds an MFA in poetry from Hunter College, and PhD in Performance Studies from New York University and has studied acting techniques extensively at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. She is a certified acting and singing voice teacher. Ms Morris has been designated a Master Artist by the Atlantic Center for the Arts and is the former 2018 WPR Fellow at Harvard University. She is currently the inaugural Distinguished Visiting Professors at the Iowa Writers' Workshop.
