Twenty-two years old and from a well-off Southern family, Billy Mitchell bides his time working at the psychiatric hospital his father runs, trying to get to the bottom of family mysteries. Then he meets Virginia, an inmate with multiple personality disorder, and nothing will ever be the same.

1972, and the south is reeling from the Civil Rights Movement and the Vietnam War. Years earlier, Billy’s mother and her African American maid fell in love, fled, and were killed in a car accident. But was it an accident? And when the maid’s son Nigel joins a radical civil rights organization that is now targeting his father, what is Billy going to do? Minnesota filmmaker Phil Harder has been working on this labor of love for over fifteen years and the result is a lush period piece that will not soon be forgotten. Based on the acclaimed novel by W. Glasgow Phillips.
