In this beautiful coming-of-age story, Shaniss and Mikuan, two young women, both from Quebec’s Innu community, are inseparable. That is, until Mikuan falls in love, not only with writing but with a white man, and nothing will ever be the same.
Living in the small port town of Sept-Îles, Quebec, Shaniss and Mikuan seem to be happy. Mikuan is blessed with a loving family with a hunter- and fisher-father, a hardworking mother, and a hockey-star brother. Shaniss on the other hand comes from a broken home, and though life is often difficult, their close friendship helps them endure. But Mikuan is a talented writer, and when she meets Francis, she begins to see the world as a larger place than just the reserve. Director Biography
Myriam Verreault directed numerous short films and was launched into the forefront with her feature film West of Pluto (À l'ouest de Pluton) (2009) which she wrote, directed and edited with Henry Bernadet. Kuessipan (2019) is her second feature.
