About the film

WATCH MOVIE

There are 640 million acres of public land in the United States. But there are powerful forces, both in government and in corporate America, eager to plunder this bounty in David Garrett Byars’ eye-opening documentary.

As more and more wealth becomes concentrated in the hands of the very wealthy, it would seem that for all Americans--rich or poor--our public lands would be sacrosanct. David Garrett Byars’s Public Trust pulls back the curtain to reveal the machinations behind efforts to steal and manipulate these lands, to drain them of natural resources or outright take them. The director travels to Alaska, into the red rock canyons of southern Utah, and north to Minnesota’s Boundary Waters, and exposes a land war going on under our very noses.
